Betty Jean Gaertner, 80, of Great Falls, passed peacefully away on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.  A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, July 23rd at 11:00 AM at Highland Cemetery.  

Betty was born November 8, 1935 in Havre, MT to Riley and Flossie Carson Howell.  She attended school from elementary through high school in Great Falls.  She married William Amdahl, and although this union ended in divorce, they had three wonderful children.  On November 23, 1964 she married the love of her life, Kenneth Gaertner, and together they had two loving children.

An extremely hard worker her entire life, Betty cooked for fifty years at local eateries; including Hi-Hat, Borries, Sheraton Inn, Rainbow Hotel, Club Cigar, Kickers and Clark & Lewies.  She enjoyed sewing, crafts, crocheting, baking and cooking.  She especially loved being with her grandkids, who kept her going!

Survivors include daughters, Brenda Gaertner, Marcy (Donnie) Johnson; son, David (Beth) Amdahl; brother, Lawrence Howell; grandchildren, Jenni, Matthew, Timmy, Amber (Kindel) Aubrey; great-grandchildren, Bryson, Brody, Trevor, Sierra, Becca, and Easton.

Those who have preceded Betty in death include her parents; husband, Kenneth Gaertner; daughters, Linda Merriman and Paula Amdahl; two brothers; six sisters and one grandson.
