Enzely “Butch” Wayne Sturre, 76, of Great Falls, MT, passed away peacefully going home to his Lord and Savior, on Monday, February 12, 2018. A Memorial Service will take place this Saturday, February 17th at 3PM in the Rose Room Chapel at Croxford Funeral Home. Military Honors will be performed by the USAF Malmstrom Honor Guard and VFW Post 1087. Burial at Highland Cemetery will take place immediately following.
Butch was born to Herman Sturre and Doris Phelps on January 22, 1942 in Goodridge, MN where he spent his youth, attending school, and later graduating from Goodridge High School. Shortly there after he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he proudly served and retired after 26 years. Throughout his duties, he earned many training certificates as he served in various positions such as Fire Protection, Missile Facilities Manager, as well as one year served during Vietnam and one year in Thailand. After he retired from the Air Force he worked 22 years as a Civil Service employee for Corrosion Control.
In April of 1963, Butch married who would be the love of his life, Phyllis “Misty” K. Helgaas. Together their lives were blessed with two daughters, Kim and Carrie.
He had a love for motorcycles and was quite the enthusiast. Butch was a motorcycle instructor for Montana Rider Education for 25 years. He also served as a rider educator the Great Falls GWRRA Chapter.
When not on the open road enjoying a ride, Butch enjoyed a variety of hobbies such as woodworking, gold panning, tinkering in the garage, working on the ranch, quiet time spent reading, or visiting cancer patients. He also enjoyed helping out Habitat for Humanity and was a member of the Blackfoot Gold Prospectors and Great Falls Gold Prospecting Clubs.
Butch is survived in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Phyllis “Misty” Sturre; daughters, Kim Sturre, Carrie (Carl) Stalnaker; sisters, Marlene Hanson, Avis Frazer, Judy McGavick; brothers, Curtis Sturre, John Helgaas, and one grand-dog, Daisy. Additional survivors include many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in passing by his parents, Herman and Doris Sturre; brothers, Bernard Sturre, Gerald Sturre; sisters, Doris Venetta Skibicki, Janice Hanson; and mother-in-law, Clarice Benson.
The family would like to add a special Thank You to the caregivers at the Benefis Peace Hospice House who cared for Butch in his final days.
