John Rexford Harmon “Rex” 95, passed away Sunday, January 7 2018. A Memorial will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 1 P.M. in the Rose Room Chapel at Croxford Funeral Home with burial to follow at Highland Cemetery. Visitation for John will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 20.

Rex was born December 4, 1922 in Spearfish South Dakota to William Thomas and Cora Anna Harmon.  He was second youngest of thirteen children with six sisters and six brothers.  Rex met Eldora LaVaughn Hare in Gates Oregon. They married November 5, 1942.

He was drafted to the army during World War II.  He was in pilot school at UCLA when he was shipped overseas.  Their daughter Darlene was born August 10, 1943 just days before he shipped out.

After returning from active duty he worked in construction in Oregon.  They welcomed a son, David, on February 27, 1947.  They moved to Minnesota in 1949 where, except for short periods, they would stay until 2006.

Rex and LaVaughn joined the Boy River Log Chapel in the early 1950’s.  They were a Christian influence in the community and with the youth group.

Rex loved his family, his God, and his country.  He loved working with wood, hence his career in construction.  When construction was slow he worked in the logging industry.  Rex along with his son David built his daughter’s current home for Jim and Darlene in 1998 with help from the grandsons and great-grandsons.

Rex spent his last 11 years with Darlene and David and their familie.  He loved going to the mountain property by Newland Creek and going four-wheeler riding on the trails with family.  He said that the mountain property was as close to Heaven without being there.

He is survived by his daughter Darlene; daughter-in-law, Marla 6 grandchildren, 11 great- grandchildren, and 8 great great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife LaVaughn of 63 years; son, David; parents, William and Cora, and his six sisters and six brothers.

Rex will remain in our hearts forever.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made for his veteran’s plaque on the Great Falls Veteran’s wall.
