Mabel Annie (Arthur) Barritt

January 11, 1918 ~ April 27, 2016 (age 98) 98 Years Old


Mabel Annie Barritt, 98, of Fairfield, passed away Wednesday, April 27th of natural causes at her daughter’s home in Power, MT.  A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 10:00 AM at the United Church of Christ in Fairfield, 6 1st Rd. NW., with burial to follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Fairfield.

Born January 11, 1918 near Winifred, MT to James and Beatrice Arthur, Mabel grew up in Winifred, graduating from the local high school.  In September of 1935, she married James Aaron Barritt.  They were blessed with two children and remained together until his passing in 1995. 

Mabel was a hard worker, farming and ranching in Winifred.  In January of 1939, as part of the Resettlement Project, she and Aaron moved to the Greenfield Bench to their current farm and ranch location, where they had dairy cattle, Hereford cattle, chickens, grain and hay. She cooked at the Greenfield School for over thirty years.  She loved card playing, cooking, gardening, livestock, family, carpentry and entertaining neighbors and friends.

Mabel is survived by her daughter, D’Arlene Hilt; son, James LeRoy Barritt; 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. 

Those who have preceded her in death include her husband, Aaron Barritt; son-in-law, Quintin Hilt; daughter-in-law, Carol Barritt; brothers, Walter Arthur, Hedley Arthur, Joe Arthur, Harry Arthur and sister, Ellen Burnside.

The family suggested memorial donations be made to Power Ambulance and/or the United Church of Christ, Fairfield, MT.
