Madeline “Pat” Altenburg, 86, of Great Falls, was surrounded by her loving family as she left this world on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at a local hospital due to complications from a stroke.  A Graveside Service for Madeline will be held Saturday, May 7th at 11:00 AM at Highland Cemetery.

Born in Honolulu, Hawaii on September 12, 1929 to Cecelia Rosa and Adriano Hernandez, Madeline attended Saint Francis Convent prior to her marriage to Rudolph Altenburg in 1952 in Honolulu.  She worked for Saint Francis Hospital while they lived in Hawaii. 

Madeline was a member of First United Methodist Church.  She loved cooking and baking.  It was a good day if you were lucky enough to visit when she had made her famous lemon meringue pie!  She loved racing, football, and hockey, but her favorite sports were the ones with her grandchildren competing.  Madeline loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed it when she had the chance to babysit them.  Family picnics, vacations, fishing trips, and family gatherings of any type were among her favorite things to do.  She especially loved time spent with her beloved Rudy, and going out dancing with him was at the top of her list.  She loved her dogs, and considered them her babies.

Survivors include daughters, Cynthia Altenburg, Brenda Altenburg and husband Larry Lasher, Barbara Altenburg, all of Great Falls; son, Leonard (Betsy) Altenburg of Denver, CO; brother, John Hernandez of Bend, OR; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Madeline was preceded in death by her loving husband, Rudolph; parents; sisters, Gino and Angie; grandson, Barry Altenburg.
