Mary Frances Mollander, 89, of Lewistown, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2017 at a local care facility in Great Falls of natural causes. The Funeral Service will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation on Wednesday, May 17 at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow at the Harlowton Cemetery.
Mary was born August 27, 1927 in Lewistown, MT to James and Hellen Law. She Graduated Harlowton High school in 1945 and later went on to receive an Associates of Arts Degree in 1947 from Colorado Woman’s College. She then went on to graduate from the University of Montana in 1949 with a Bachelor’s Degree.
Mary married Dennis Mollander on June 10, 1950. She Became an Assistant Documents and Serial Librarian for the U of M. In 1955, they relocated to Great Falls where she was employed by the Great Falls School District 1 as a substitute teacher.
Mary enjoyed sewing, gardening and reading. Above all she loved to quilt. She was a member of the Falls Quilting guild for many years. She began documenting many of Montana’s historic quilts. This led to her becoming Project Director for the Montana Historic Quilt Projects “Border to Border: Historic Quilts and Quilt Makers of Montana” by Annie Hanshew in 2009. She was also a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.
Mary is survived by her children; James (Karen) Mollander, Carol Mollander, and George Mollander.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Mollander, and infant grandson, Samuel Peder Mollander.
