Norma Laverne Hicks Nommensen was born in Fort Benton, MT on 10/31/1930 to Edna Robison Hicks and Harold R Hicks, the third of six children.

Norma attended grade school at Harwood Country School near her home either walking to school or riding on horseback.  She attended high school in Geraldine, MT living in the dormitory provided by the school; graduating from Geraldine High School in 1949.  She then attended both Western College of Education in Dillon, MT and Northern College in Havre, MT graduating with a degree in education.

Norma taught school in three country schools, Elim, Big Bend and Promised Land until ending her teaching career in Power Public Schools in 1955.

She married Robert Nommensen Sr on 12/30/1954.  She spent the next years raising her five children, and donating her spare time teaching Sunday School for 26 years at Trinity Lutheran Church and being a leader in 4-H with at one time having 29 members in Willing Workers 4-H Club along with 4 other leaders, teaching them sewing, cooking and being responsible citizens.

She later became a teachers aide and substitute teacher with the Great Falls Public Schools.

Norma was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for over 60 years being confirmed and married by Pastor E.T.
