Richard E. Mansfield

January 16, 1930 ~ November 15, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Richard E. Mansfield, 87, of Great Falls, passed away at home on November 15, 2017.  A Memorial Service will be held this Saturday, November 18th at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, 1315 Central Ave.

Dick, to everyone who knew him, was born to Kenneth E. and Teresa Mansfield January 16, 1930 in Great Falls, MT where he lived until his passing. He attended the local schools, graduating from Great Falls High School in 1947.  Dick married Mary Beth Smith on October 21, 1956 in Dillon, MT.  They recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.  He was a 75-year member of the 1st Presbyterian Church. 

He started selling magazines as a young child and delivered the Great Falls Leader and Tribune for many years.  One of his early jobs was for Western Geophysical and he loved telling stories about the adventures of his crew.  He was a mechanic by trade and worked at, then owned, Jerry’s Radiator for many years.  He also owned several secondhand stores, including the Barter Mart.

Dick was an adventure lover and had a passion for cars.  He raced stock cars at the Great Falls Speedway in the 50’s.   He loved garage sales, collecting antiques, and snowmobiling.  He greatly enjoyed time at his cabin near Augusta where he taught his girls, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many others how to fish.

Dick is survived by his loving wife; daughters, Betty Patete of Philadelphia, PA, Ruth (Tom) Hlavnicka of Big Sandy, Jean Mansfield of Great Falls, and Lois (Jon) Tromblay of Newberg, OR; grandchildren, Donny, Elliot, Emily and Valerie Patete, Tara Hlavnicka, Karleen and Kylen Tromblay; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Giovanni Patete, Mackenzie Burnaby and Ashlynn Gasvoda, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Robert, Clista (Wood), James, and a stillborn twin brother.

Memorials can be made to FISH, 1620 12th Ave. N., Great Falls.  FISH is operated by 13 churches and one service club.  It supplies food to needy families and individuals.  Dick was a dedicated volunteer for many years.
