Ruby Marie Johnson, 91, of Great Falls, passed away on Friday, April 6, 2018 of natural causes. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, April 13th at 11:00 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Born December 26, 1926 in Cascade, MT to Rudolph and Isabel (Cable) Malmgren, the second oldest of five children, Ruby grew up in the Simms area. She was a member of the Simms High School Band and worked at the Simms grocery store during her senior year in high school. Graduating in 1944, she moved to Great Falls and worked at Montgomery Wards, S & L shop and then the Wee Tot shop. In November 1953, she married Roy Johnson, and together they were blessed with one child. At this time, she chose to leave the workforce and become a full-time homemaker. Many neighborhood children would hang out at her house because her cookie jar was always full. Ruby and Roy were lucky enough to share 45 wonderful years together until his untimely death in 1998.
Ruby was very active in her community and was a charter member of Redeemer Lutheran Church where she also enjoyed serving as a Sunday School Teacher. Ruby was also a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Quilters Guild, VFW Post #5590 Women’s Auxiliary in 1980-81, Campfire Girls and a 4-H leader. She was a fabulous seamstress, skills that carried her throughout a life time. She always loved dolls, making porcelain dolls for many years. She was a great cook and loved time spent gardening. She loved going on her sister’s trips, traveling throughout Montana and Canada visiting cousins and their families. Family was very important to Ruby, and her grandchildren were her pride and joy.
Survivors include daughter, Laura Johnson-Jewett (Rex Jewett) of Great Falls; grandson, Nick Jewett; granddaughter, Christine Jewett, both of Great Falls; brothers in law, Bob Champion and Evan Heisel; many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
Those who have preceded her in death include her parents; brother, Thomas (Pinky) Malmgren; sisters, Marie Malmgren, Alice Heisel and Ruth Champion.
Special thanks to her extended family at Bee Hive Homes and Peace Hospice for all the love, care and compassion they have given to her and our family. God bless each and everyone of you.
