Betty “Joan” Vernon passed-away at Peace Hospice on Thursday, July 23, 2020. A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, August 8th at 2:00 PM at Highland Cemetery.
Our mom was born on September 30 in Detroit, MI. She graduated from Belleville High School in 1944. She then attended William and Mary College in Virginia, studying journalism. Her love of reading lasted her entire life, reading anything she could. She and her best friend Ginny decided they hated the snow, so off to California they went, with $200 in their pockets. To Hollywood, of course. Being hired at Western Airlines as a secretary would soon change her life. The handsome executive in the next office was really a pain in the neck, often correcting her dictation with a red pencil. She and our dad Robert Vernon were married October 17, 1953. They had three children, Chris, Karen and Nancy. We lived in North Hollywood, CA and mom was a homemaker, hosting many coffee dates. Our parents were very sociable, attending the Academy Awards, UCLA sports and hosted many cocktail parties.
Moving to Montana was quite a change but she gladly gave up her lifestyle so her kids could grow up in a healthy environment with a great education.
We would just like to thank you Mom. Everyone who met you, loved you and begged to hear your life stories.
Surviving family members are her children, Christopher (Cathy) Vernon, Karen (Jon) Olson, Nancy (Tim) Poitevin; grandchildren, Samantha Vernon, Cody (Lacy) Olson, Christopher (Nikki) Olson, Anne Olson, Jon Wyatt Olson and Michael Poitevin; great-grandchildren, EllaMae Overton, Kayler Olson, Kaidy Olson, Kallie Olson, Penelope Olson, Poppy Olson, Aneesa Olson, Alivia Olson and Annalee Poitevin.
Joan was preceded in death by her mother and father, Wallace and Myrtle Potts; husband, Robert K. Vernon; sister, Beverly Koster and her beloved granddaughter, Heidi Ann Olson.
