John Snyder Obituary

John Clark Snyder passed away at Peace Hospice on Thursday, April 4, 2024 with his loving family by his side.

Born and raised in Montana, John Snyder joined the US Navy after high school working in communications Research and Development. He served as an electronic equipment operator, supervisor, and systems resource manager in high-tech environments. He received several letters of commendation, was granted membership into Mensa, possessed high-level security clearances, and received an honorable discharge during his nine years of service.

Returning to Montana in 1984 to follow a lifelong goal to become an artist, John began the study of animals and plants in order to understand his subject matter better. In 1990 he graduated with highest honors from the College of Great Falls earning a bachelor’s degree in biology. Since that time, he has gained college status with the prestigious National Sculpture Society of New York City, developed a new casting technic utilizing polymer chemistry and even tried his hand at writing novels. He was exploring the creation of computer paintings with an eye for the day when digital assisted sculptures would become a practical reality. John enjoyed sculpture art as well. He worked as a fine artist producing bonded-marble and pewter sculptures. His works have been included in the Montana State Historical Museum as well as several private collections. His talents didn’t end with crafting. John had a great ear for sound which made him skilled in multiple instruments. He played the dulcimer, drum, as well as various others.

John was an active member of our Lady of Lourdes Parish and would often lector on their behalf. He enjoyed giving back to his community any way he could. Along with the church, he volunteered at the St. Ann’s Soup Kitchen and coordinated publicity for a non-profit organization. His duties in the nonprofit included presenting educational lectures to the public and writing press releases. Through this, he developed a unique process and engaged in production of fossil/artifact reproduction.

John is survived by his loving wife, Susan and their son, Russell, stepson, stepdaughter, aunt, nieces, nephews, cousins, and two sister in laws.

All donations can be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Parish and school.

There will be a Mass in John’s honor on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at 11AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
