Welcome to the memorial page for

Edwin Gemar

April 5, 1929 ~ June 9, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Farming is defined as the business of agriculture and cattle. For those who live and work on the farm, it’s a way of life. For Edwin Gemar it was both. He understood it as a business and having grown up on the family farm north of Great Falls, it was his life. He worked the farm throughout his childhood. He worked it until graduating from Great Falls High and then continuing his education and getting a degree in accounting.

So, he left the farm and moved to Seattle where he met and married his first wife, Madalaine. Working as an accountant for The Rock Island Railroad, until they closed. This brought him and Madalaine back to Montana, back to farming. This was where he would stay, first working as a hired hand at the Thompson farm in Brady, MT, and then back to the family farm just east of Brady.

As the years flew past, he did more than work the farm. Edwin and Madalaine had two sons together; Donald and Bill. Later he married Janet. He developed a taste for antique cars, both buying and selling.

Farming, the one constant, brought him to Sun River. To an irrigated farm that he bought after his mother passed away. This is where he would stay until his declining health forced him to move to a nursing facility in town.

On June 9th, he was called home to be reunited with Madalaine, Janet, and his oldest son Bill.

His surviving son Donald, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, will forever hold his memory in their hearts.
