Floyd Lee Grassman

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle, Floyd Grassman passed away Wednesday, May 16th, 2018 after a brief illness. Cremation has been entrusted to Croxford Funeral Home.

Floyd was born June 25th, 1935 in Great Falls, Montana to John and Carrie Grassman. They took him home to the family farm east of Power and he lived there until he graduated high school in 1953.  He attended Power schools for 12 years and excelled in athletics. He was an extraordinary football, basketball and baseball player, as well as participating in track and field. After graduating from high school, he worked for the Cameron and Maurer farms east of Power until 1957, when he was inducted into the United States Army. Stationed overseas, he spent the majority of his enlistment in Germany, returning home to the United States in 1959.

Prior to his leave for Germany, he met the love of his life, Sharron Odegard. They later married in 1958. Floyd received his honorable discharge in 1959. He and Sharron then settled in Great Falls. Floyd then worked at Consolidated Freightways for a few years, until he left in 1967 to pursue his lifelong dream of farming. Floyd and Sharron returned to the Power area where they lived and worked until his retirement from farming in the early 90s.

In the mid-seventies, Floyd began driving the school bus, which he absolutely loved. He did this for many years until his retirement from that in 2008. An avid sports fan his entire life, Floyd coached little league baseball in the early 70s, and was an enthusiastic supporter of Power athletics his entire life. He truly, truly loved driving students to school, as well as driving the student-athletes, cheerleaders, band and pep squad members to games all over the entire state. He was also involved with the Great Falls Americans hockey team and drove the team bus for them. 

Floyd was never one to sit still during his retirement, and in the last few years worked at a retirement home in Chouteau, as well as serving as a substitute mailman in the Power area.   

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sharron; sons, Byron (Janet) Grassman, Blaine, Brent (Mindi) Grassman; sisters, Millie Parker and Jeannie Cearlock; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Carrie Grassman; brothers, John (Sonny) and Roy Grassman; sister, Donna Andrews; and great-grandson, Stanley Lind.

The family would like to thank the extraordinary staff at Benefis Hospital and the radiology staff at the Great Falls Clinic for their kindness and compassion during Floyd’s final week. Per his wishes, no services will be held.
