At the age of 100, Gerald Joseph Habets, affectionately known as the “Man of Steel”, passed away on November 16, 2019. A Vigil Service will be held this Thursday, Nov. 21st beginning at 6:00 PM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Great Falls, with the Funeral Mass on Friday, Nov. 22nd at the same location to begin at 11:00 AM.
Gerald was born in Conrad, MT on September 15, 1919 to Peter and Mary Habets and raised in the Belgian and Dutch colony near Williams, MT. He married Ada Irene Wittmier in 194l and raised three daughters. He farmed in the Conrad area from 1941 to 1982, when he retired and moved to Great Falls. He was an active member of the Flywheelers Club and loved to invent and create metal masterpieces, which earned him the title of “Man of Steel”. He wanted to be remembered for his creativity and art.
Gerald was preceded in death by 19 siblings and their spouses and his wife of 52 years, Ada.
He is survived by his three daughters, Dena, Diane and Eunice; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and his brother-in-law, Allen Wittmier and wife, Dolores.
