Joseph Lara III, 74, of Great Falls passed away Friday, March 30, 2018. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Rose Room Chapel at Croxford Funeral Home with Burial to follow at Highland Cemetery.
Born on May 5, 1943 in San Diego, California to Joseph Lara II and Florence Lucille Lara, Joseph attended the local schools, graduating from Claremont High School. He went on to college at Berean Baptist Institute where he got a Graduate of Theology Diploma from Fredericksburg, VA. In 1963, Joseph married his true love, Sylvia Priscilla Damour and they were blessed with three children. Joseph joined the Air Force in July of 1961 and was stationed at Phan Rang Air Base in Vietnam. He received a Commendation Medal for meritorious service from March 1967 to January 1968, before his honorable discharge in April of 1969.
Joseph was a retired police officer, working for the Metropolitan Police Dept in Washington, DC for 20 years. He also worked for the Great Falls Transit. He was a retired Baptist Preacher who pastored the Independent Baptist Church and the Hacienda Baptist Church in Las Cruces, NM as well as the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Juneau, AK. He was a member of the Graceway Baptist Church in Great Falls.
Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Sylvia; daughters, Kathryn L. Harse, Jeanne M. Dobson; son, Joseph Lara IV; brother, Steven Lara; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
