Karl Jay Dehn

July 10, 1937 ~ August 7, 2017 (age 80) 80 Years Old

Karl Jay Dehn, 80, of Great Falls, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2017.  A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, August 12th at 11:00 AM in the Rose Room Chapel of Croxford Funeral Home.  A private family burial will take place at a later date. 

Karl was born July 10, 1937 in Great Falls to James and Astrid Dehn.  He was raised on the Fairfield Bench, farming and ranching.  He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1955 and continued to enhance his education at Montana State College (MSC), now Montana State University (MSU), with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1959.  He received his Private Pilot’s License from the Federal Aviation Administration in 1964.  In July 1961, he married Sonja Marie Larson in Deer Lodge, and they were together for 55 years, until her passing on February 5, 2017. 

Karl spent over 40 years in Construction/Program Management with Engineering & Management responsibilities for large Department of Defense (DOD) contracts across the upper Midwest of the United States with Minuteman Missile Defense Systems.  Upon leaving Construction Management, Karl became a Certified Contracting Assistance Specialist (CCAS), and provided technical, hands-on, one on one, assistance and counseling to Montana business’, seeking to market their products or services to all governmental agencies.  After retirement, he was a volunteer with the Senior Corp. of Retired Executives (SCORE) in North Central Montana.

Karl loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, boating, golfing, and bowling.  He loved to attend his children & grandchildren’s sporting events.

Survivors include his daughter, Kristen (Mike Carrethers) Dehn of Great Falls; sons, Keith (Armoun Forghan) Dehn of Mesa, AZ, Paul (Karin) Dehn of Choteau; brothers, Richard “Dick” (Myrna) Dehn of Livingston and Sig (Donna) Dehn of Bozeman; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Karl was preceded in death by his parents, and his loving wife, Sonja.

The family suggests memorials be sent to Shriners Hospital for Children, Office of Development
