Kenneth Halcro Obituary

Kenneth Lee 'Ken' Halcro, of Great Falls, 69, passed away May 26th at Peace Hospice. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date and time.

Ken was born May 11, 1949 in Great Falls, Montana, to the late Helen Taylor and late Wayne Halcro. He spent his youth in Montana and moved to Texas in 1966. Ken graduated from Mabank (TX) High School in 1967.

Ken volunteered for the United States Army in 1969. He boarded a bus at the Great Falls Civic Center and went to the Armed Forces Induction Station in Butte. After Basic Training, he was stationed in Mannheim, Germany. While overseas, he sent letters to the Secretary of Defense, President Nixon, Senator Mansfield and the Sergeant Major of the Army requesting to serve in Vietnam. He served in Vietnam from May 1970 to March 1971; spending his 21st birthday in Vietnam. Ken was an Armored Crewman. While serving his country, Ken was honored to receive a Bronze Star with the 25th Infantry Division and a second Bronze Star with the 1st Cavalry Division Airmobile. He also earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Combat Infantry Badge.

Upon returning home from Vietnam, Ken was proud to be an Engineer and Firefighter with the Great Falls Fire Department for a decade. He decided to start his own business, Metro Cleaning, in 1982.  He owned and operated his business until his retirement in 2013.

Ken loved the Dallas Cowboys, trout fishing, NASCAR, listening to music; especially Elvis, woodworking, coin collecting, playing practical jokes, and spending time with his family and dog. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Ken was the loving husband of Priscilla Halcro. They married April 17th, 1993. Ken is also survived by his daughters, Erin (Darren) Townsend, Leesa Halcro, and Casey Halcro; brothers, Rob (Dorothy) Halcro and Carl (Susie) Halcro; and grandchild, Emily Townsend. Numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends will miss Ken. He also leaves behind his greatly loved dog, Maddy Bell.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Archie & Alice Halcro and Carl & Veda Taylor.
