Born May 21, 1935 in Great Falls to Ford L. Stanfield and Grace (Hockersmith) Stanfield, Kermit was raised in Great Falls for a time, but mostly in the Sun River Valley. While in the valley he lived with an aunt and uncle. He went to school in Fort Shaw and Sun River. He then went to high school in Oilmont, MT because his mother had a teaching job there. He was active in sports in high school and worked in the oil field. His senior year he returned to Sun River and graduated from Simms High School with his old classmates.
Right out of high school Kermit enlisted in the U.S. Navy for four years. While in the Service he met and married his first wife, Joan Johnsen of Neihart, MT. Four children were born to this marriage: Daniel in 1959, Kori in 1960, Brenda in 1962 and Neil in 1974. Out of the Navy he worked as a Police Officer for the city of Great Falls and owned a couple businesses. In 1975 his marriage ended in divorce.
In 1980 he met and married the very finest woman in the world, Joan Martinez. They had no children together, but between them they had ten kids.
Kermit was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alice Beck; infant brother, Merlin and stepson, Thomas Martinez.
Survivors include his loving wife of 38 years, Joan; children, Daniel Stanfield, Kori (Doug) Burford, Brenda Pospisil, Neil Stanfield, BJ (Jerry) Bouray, Rick (Deb) Martinez, Gail (Rick) Cook, Brian (Debbie) Martinez, Karen (David) Castle; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
