Matthew Jon McElroy, born July 19, 1972 in Billings, MT to Kenneth McElroy and Genia (Richardson) McElroy, lost his battle with mental illness on May 21, 2017, just missing his 45th birthday. A Memorial Service will be held in his honor on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 332 Riverview 3 W, Great Falls.

Matthew was a happy and loving child with a fine wit and a flair for the dramatic, who showed great promise early in life through his keen intellect. He attended schools in Billings, and despite his challenges, he attained his high school diploma in 1993. He then went on to complete two years of college at RMC., where he developed serious computer skills and later exercised them working for KULR-8 and a computer repair shop in Billings for a few years before his disease won out.

Matthew had many challenges in life and fought a long-term battle with mental illness and the kind of self-medication problems that often accompany that battle.

He is survived in death on his mother’s side by his mother, Genia (Chuck Wrigg) McElroy of Great Falls his loyal friend Lee Swanson; grandmother, Marion Richardson of Billings; aunt and uncle Glynis and Danny Burchell; and, aunt and uncle Jo and Rick Richardson; five cousins- Erika, Chuckie, Coley, Hal, Kiel, and their families.

On his father’s side, Matthew is survived by his father, Ken (Bonnie) McElroy of Helena; grandfather, Harold McElroy of Great Falls; half-brother, Sean McElroy of Eugene, OR; half-sister, Shannon Scanson of Las Vegas, NV; aunt, Debbie Peters of Colstrip, MT; and uncle, Kevin McElroy of Shelby Township, MI.

Peace be with you Matthew. You will be missed by all who had the pleasure of having loved you.
