Melvin Mitchell Mart, 83, of Great Falls, passed away Friday, January 26, 2018. Per the family’s requests no services will be held.
Melvin was born January 9, 1935 in Jordan, MT to Wren and Doris Mart. He went to school in Jordan and graduated from Garfield County High School. He first experienced his interest in the printing industry in 1952, with the Jordan Tribune. On November 3, 1955 Melvin became the first Montanan to be drafted into the Navy. After nearly two years of service to his Country, he was honorably discharged in August of 1957. He then returned to Montana and worked for Advanced Litho Printing from the 1970’s until his retirement.
He met Kathleen “Kathy” a short while after his first marriage drew to a close, and the two were wed in Coeur d’Alene, ID. They were able to celebrate 56 years of marriage before his passing, providing his five children and extended family with countless treasured memories.
Melvin loved anything and everything that had to do with cars; his favorite were old classic cars. He also loved spending any extra time he had with his family. He would spend the harsh winters of Montana, in Yuma, AZ with others from Montana under the hot sun. He loved to drive his RV or really anything; he always wanted to keep moving.
Survivors are his loving wife, Kathy; daughters, Tammie and Annie (Mike); sons, Phillip (Deb) Mart, and Ben (Leah) Mart; sister, Betty Shorten; grandchildren, Kim (Josh), Ely (Taylor), Stephanie, Riley, Lucas, Emily and Hannah; and one great-grandchild, Jesse.
Those who have preceded Melvin in death include his parents; brothers, Wayne and Justin Mart; sister, Margie; and son, Troy Mart.
