Michael “Mike” Richard Carroll, 60, of Great Falls, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 17, 2017 of natural causes. A Memorial Service in honor of Mike’s life will be held on Saturday, July 22, at 1:00 PM in the Rose Room Chapel at Croxford Funeral Home with burial to follow at Highland Cemetery. Military Honors will be performed at the cemetery by the Army National Guard and the VFW Post 1087.

Mike was born on May 11, 1957 to parents Richard and Maxine Carroll in Butte, MT. The family later moved to Great Falls where he attended school, graduating from CMR in 1975. Right after high school Mike joined the United States Army proudly served from 1975 to 1978, having spent two of those years in Germany. Upon returning home after his tour, Mike then moved to Baker, MT where he worked as a roughneck in the oil fields for six years. He also spent time working for Northwest Fence, and did various other handyman and carpentry jobs, finishing his career at the University of Great Falls before retiring in 2013. But even during his retirement, Mike kept busy spending much of days at the Harris Ranch where he was employed to do what he loved.

During the earlier parts of Mike’s life, he met, and fell in love with Shirley Sangray who he married on August 2, 1980. Together their lives were blessed with three daughters and one son and happily shared a number of good long years before they divorced in 1992. Later in life he met who would become his second wife, Rita Mee. They married on March 17, 2006 and remained happily settled for five years until they’re separation of divorce in 2011.

Mike had a sense of humor that could break the tension in any given situation with a funny story or a dirty joke. He enjoyed hobbies like automotive restoration, carpentry, playing his guitar, and watching the Boston Red Sox’s and the New England Patriots.

Above all else, Mike was an outdoorsman; having a true passion for hunting and fishing with many fond memories of time spent with his son Rick and cousin Jack Myllymaki. He also enjoyed camping, shooting guns, and all things pheasant. He was a proud member of Pheasants Forever in addition to the North American Fishing Club.

Mike leaves behind his four children, Dana (TJ) Strader of Shelby, Mandy (Casey) Dess, Mykell (Dustin) Fox, and Rick (Sarah) Carroll all of Great Falls; step-daughter, Megan Sauke; sister, Donna (Chuck) Abrams of Billings; grandkids, Jorlynn, Mackenzie, Joslynn, Lauren, Cameron, Saylor, and Jaxsynn, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Maxine Carroll; brother, Rick; and sister, Laurie; and cousin, Jack Myllymaki.
