Patricia Jo Kuka Devereaux Cobell

The Creator called our momma Patricia Kuka-Cobell home on November 16, 2018.

Mom/Pat was born on Birch Creek on August 5, 1940 to Merrell Jacob and Grace Louise Kuka. Pat was the youngest daughter and the 2nd to the last in the Kuka Clan.

Pat/Mom went to school in Valier, Flandreu SD, and graduated from Conrad. She was raised on the Kuka spread, which was on Birch Creek.  Mom carried the crown honor as the first and only Native Woman for the Conrad Hoop-Up Queen in 1958.

In 1959 Patricia married Bill Devereaux; and she made the Devereaux Ranch/Cut Bank Creek her home. She had five (5) daughters; Billie Jo Devereaux (Maddox) of Great Falls, Zena Deveraux (Rutherford) of Castro Valley California, JoDee Devereaux (Hess) Great Falls, Lisa Devereaux of Pablo Mt., and Jonni Devereaux of Great Falls Montana.

Pat/mom was an extremely talented and patient woman.  Cooking and sewing were her passions; however she had many other creative gifts.  She worked at the Blackfeet Boarding School as matron, she worked at the Browning Middle School as an aide while she was married to Bill.

You’d always find extra kids around her; she was referred to as the “Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe”. Her patience was tested to the fullest, she was a mother to many and a friend to several.

In 1977 mom and Bill divorced and she later married Henry “Bud” Cobell, at that time mom picked up two more children to raise; Rod and Lynn Cobell and not much later they adopted Shad Pepion.  At which she devoted her time to our baby brother Shad and followed him faithfully all over with his sports.  After Shad graduated he enlisted in the Marines, she did state she was worried and prayed hard for him she was very proud of him and all his accomplishments.

Just when she thought she was finished with her diapers and bottles along came the grand kids.

Billie Jo had Scott and Lea; Zena had 2 kids; Charles & Kelly Girl……… JoDee had 4 children; Billie Dee, Bobbi, John, and George, Lisa was gifted with 2 kids; KeAndreu and Izabella then finally Jon Jon had 4 children; Ashely, Annie, Thomas, and Maryjane.    Later on Mom/Pat took on the role and responsibility to few of her grandchildren.   There was never a dull moment for her.  As years went on she became a great grandmother to 20 children; Jacob and Robert Wetzel, KeAynna and Keith Jr. Devereaux; Hazel B & King Charles Raining Bird, DeAudre, Amaiya, Jacoby and King Black; Wyatt & Roper Thomas and LaNeya Lilly Heavy Runner; Araya, Alivia Sangret,  Azik, and Acen Alfons, Sage Marie Fish; and Mia and Ashton Gallagher.  Although she didn’t get to see them all the time, she did grow a great love for Sage Marie just because she seen her every day if not every other.

Mom talked about her growing up all the time and how she missed family & friends from the old days.

Patricia, mom, gramma, was loved by all but will be truly missed by everyone.
