Sam White Obituary

John Samuel White, 96, of Great Falls, passed away Friday, January 11, 2019 at Missouri River Manor.  A Memorial Service will be held Friday, January 18 at 11:00 AM at Croxford Funeral Home in the Rose Room Chapel with military honors.

Sam was born on July 9, 1922 in Hinsdale, MT to John Homer and Clair (Stalcup) White. He was raised in Devon and attended Shelby High School until joining the Navy during World War II, spending three and a half years as a telegrapher. Returning home he worked for the CCC, Great Northern Railroad and then on to farming and ranching for the remainder of his life. During these years he met and married Joyce Kohles and this union lasted 26 years. He then met the love of his life, Mildred Winterrowd, and they remained together for 46 years until Sam’s passing.

He had many passions. enjoying hunting, fishing, gardening, and golfing. Sam served as a volunteer in the Cascade Lions Club and served many years as a school board member with the Devon, Shelby and Cascade Schools Districts.

Sam leaves behind his beloved wife, Mildred White; sons, Owen White and Duane White; sisters, Marian Hinds and Jean Doyle; brothers, Bob White and Bill White; six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren.

He goes on to join his parents, Homer and clair; sisters, Eileen Buckland and Mina Nelson; first wife, Joyce White.
