After graduating from Conrad High School, she attended the Columbus School of Nursing, completing a nursing degree. She worked as a RN at a doctor’s office for a few years before beginning a long career as an Emergency Room nurse at the Columbus Hospital.

She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and supporting the family in various adventures with horses, pigeons, camping, and other endeavors.
Alice was known as a loving and caring person with a temperament that was thoughtful, stable and lovable. She was never one to criticize or say negative things about others. To the end, she was a devoted Christian and Our Saviors Lutheran Church member. Without exception, she prayed daily for those on the prayer chain and supported others however she could. The day of her death, she noted having a very good and long life and expressed a belief that it was her turn to leave (to heaven).
At the time of her death, she was residing in Texas with family. She was preceded in death by husband, John; brothers, Howard, Bob, John, Edward, and Art Hovde; and sister, Anna (Evers). She is survived by her sister, Madelyn, daughter Kathryn Meade and son-in-law, Raleigh Meade who was like a son to her.
