Alva "Al" Carpenter Obituary

 Alva (Al) Charles Carpenter 90 and 1 month passed away at Peace Hospice from natural causes in the early morning hours of July 14 with family by his side. Dad was born to Adolphus and Hildegard (Hillstrand) Carpenter on June 14, 1930 in Great Falls MT. Dad attended Roosevelt and Paris Gibson School in Great Falls graduating from Great Falls High in 1949. He joined the Montana Air National Guard and also went to work for Mountain Bell and Kopp’s Music before he landed a full time position with the Air Guard, setting up the accounting system and later helped with the introduction of computers to the accounting department for the 120th Fighter Group, which he did for a number of years before leaving at the rank of Tech Sargent.. He held various other jobs after the Air Guard two of which were custodian at Longfellow School and the water distribution department at City of Great Falls before starting a career with Advance Property Management, doing maintenance work, retiring after 30 years at age 87 as office manager.

        In 1953 he met the love of his life Joan (Hulme) Almon and her three children whom he raised as his own. He married Joan on August 14th 1954. Out of this union came Steve in 1955 and Jere in 1956. Dad enjoyed tinkering on cars and other things mechanical or electrical. He loved to take the family camping or go for an afternoon picnic in the mountains. To put on or be involved with a big Bar-B-Q or Christmas Eve party with friends and family was his favorite event.  He is survived by sons John (Peggy) Almon, Steve (Linda) Carpenter and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wife Joan, Sons Jere Carpenter, Wayne Almon, Daughter Carolyn Almon, Brothers Glen, Robert, Willard, Jay, Sisters Dorothy Carpenter, Ethel Warkentin, and Phyllis Hudson. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Peace Hospice, or the charity of your choice.
