Carol Hawley Obituary

Carol Mae Hawley was born on May 27, 1935, to John Daniel Peacock and Katie Mae Peacock in Gilbert, AZ. She passed away in Great Falls MT on July 3, 2024. Carol was the 11th of 13 children and the last surviving member of her family.

Carol’s love of family and church was a lifelong enjoyment. She was an integral part of keeping the Peacock family reunions alive and encouraging everyone to attend.

Growing up in Mesa, AZ she would kick up her heels with her sister in ballet and tap dancing. She also found pleasure in singing and participating in marching squad.

Carol Mae was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Conrad, MT where she enjoyed several serving opportunities. She spent the time helping out in the Scouting Program. She also served in multiple leadership positions, including the Relief Society, Young Women and as the Librarian. Beyond that she would take “Meals on Wheels” to those in need.

Fund raising that she was a part of, helped with the first phase of building the Conrad Ward. In addition, she was a viable part of bringing tacos to Conrad and selling them at the LDS taco booth at Conrad’s annual Whoop Up event.

She also cherished her flowers. As an accomplished floriculturist, Carol made that corner yard in Conrad one of the most impressive sights in the community every spring and summer.

While attending BYU, in the late 50s, Carol met the man that would become her husband of 67 years, Merrill Hawley who himself had just returned from serving his country in the U.S. Army. They were married June 8, 1957, and sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple June 8, 1960.

After that Carol and Merrill moved to Gallup City to help tend the oilfield. Three Years later they moved to their house in Conrad where they raised their children.

She is survived by her husband, Merrill Hawley, her sons Kim (Lisa) Hawley and Wade Hawley all of Conrad. Also survived by her daughters Kara Thompson of Helena and Michele Wandke (John) of Great Falls. Other Survivors include 7 grandchildren and 5 great children.

Services will be held in at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on July 11, 2024 at 11 a.m. in Conrad, MT. There will be a dedication of the grave at Hillside Cemetery, concluding with a luncheon at the LDS church.

Condolences may be sent to 84 Conrad Dupuyer Rd in Conrad MT 59425.
