David P. Rogstad, 81, passed away on July 7, 2024, in Great Falls, Montana. Born on August 30, 1942, in Plentywood, Montana, David was a lifelong lover of farming who cherished his time in the fields and with his family. He worked with Frontier and United Airlines as a Station Agent for a total of 33 years. To maintain his love of farming and dedication to providing for his family, David mostly worked night shifts - most of his life he worked two jobs!
David graduated from Westby High School, and worked hard financially supporting his mother and family. He married the love of his life, Mary Jensen, on November 17, 1962. David and Mary worked hard to maintain their love for almost 62 years - raising three kids when they were still kids and putting all three kids through college. Both David & Mary continued to excel at raising children by being exceptional grandparents (6) and great-grandparents (6). David was also known as Bopa in this important life role.
Known for his kindness, great sense of humor and hard working spirit, David was beloved by all who knew him. His dedication to his family and his friends were evident in every aspect of his life. David was often described by acquaintances as the nicest guy they had ever met (& many of these acquaintances had just met him!). David was also very keen to do quality work - especially in farming. No weed was safe in his fields - even if it took hand weeding by the family. Later in life David took to detailed restoration of old tractors. He proudly drove his tractors in parades and put them on display at the Montana State Fair. When David and Mary retired from their day jobs, they began winter excursions south to Yuma, AZ. There they blossomed some very special friendships that remain today.
David is survived by his loving wife, Mary; children, Vicki (Neal) Wittlake, Julie Allen, and Jim (Mindi) Rogstad; grandchildren, Josh Wittlake, Sarah (Josh) Clemons, Billy (Beth) Allen, Connor (Ana) Rogstad, Justin (Madi) Rogstad, and Katie Allen; brothers-in-law, Mike (Kathy) Jensen and Harvey Lund; sisters-in-law, Norma Delong and Barb Nelson; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Beverly (Harvey) Lund, and brothers-in-law Roy (Norma) Delong and Gary (Barb) Nelson, and by his Son-in-law Dave (Julie) Allen.
A funeral service will be held at Croxford Funeral Home in Great Falls, at 2 pm, on Friday, July 12. A reception will follow the services at the funeral home, where friends and family are invited to share memories and celebrate David’s life.
