Edward Sawyer Obituary

Edward "Buzz" Sawyer, 92, of Great Falls, MT, passed away on January 11, 2024. Cremation has been entrusted to Croxford Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be a private family event.

Buzz was born in Rochester, MN, in 1931, to Edward and Vera Sawyer. He grew up on the family's farm until joining the Air Force. He was a Korean War veteran and served all around the world. He played on the 1964 championship Air Force volleyball team while in the UK. After serving 20 honorable years, he retired at Malmstrom Air Force Base in 1968.

Buzz then began his next career as a Salesman for northAmerican Van Lines (NAVL). He worked his way up to Vice-President and ran the ALCAN highway. He was proud of his many awards and achievements earned during his years with NAVL. After 20 years of service, he enjoyed his second retirement.

Buzz then decided he’d have fun selling the “toys” he spent so much time enjoying and became a salesman at Steve’s Sports Center.

Buzz enjoyed an active life. He loved traveling, camping, boating, riding horses, racing snowmobiles, motorcycles, golfing, and watching sports. Buzz was quite the charmer and loved entertaining family and friends with a good story or a funny joke.

Those who preceded him in death include his parents, Edward and Vera Sawyer of Rochester, MN; brothers, Merle, Kenneth, Forrest, and Thomas; sisters, Adair and Beverly; former wives, Marlene and Patricia.

Survivors include daughter, Michelle (George) McConville of Las Vegas. NV; son, Keystow Sawyer of Great Falls, MT; grandson, Mike Sayer, of Las Vegas, NV; granddaughter, Jen Sayer, and her husband, Karim Guirguis, of Henderson, NV; great-grandson, Jackson Sayer, of Las Vegas, NV; sister, Nancy of MN; and many nieces and nephews.

Buzz loved being with animals and enjoyed sharing his home with many dogs throughout the years, and later in life, with his son's cats, Namath and Rowdy.

The family extends our heartfelt thanks to BeeHive Huckleberry House and Peace Hospice for the loving care shown to our dad.
