Elmyra Dorothy Dorn (Thompson) died surrounded by loved ones on June 6, 2025, at the age of 99, in Great Falls, MT.
Elmyra was born on July 23,1925, in New York City, NY, to Helen and Albert Thompson.
Elmyra left school in the 10th grade to help support her family. Elmyra truly enjoyed all the jobs she had including being a telephone operator and working for Duke Laboratories. During WWII, she worked in a factory building bomb sights. She was a homemaker when her children were young, then worked as a lunch lady for Norwalk Public Schools for many years.
Prior to WWII, Elmyra met the love of her life, Howard. They were engaged before Howard was deployed to Europe. The two married on January 25, 1946, in Norwalk, CT. They had two boys: Ron and Roger.
Elmyra lived in New England most of her life. After retirement, Elmyra and Howard settled in Myrtle Beach, SC, where Elmyra loved walking the beaches.
Elmyra’s greatest happiness was her family. She was an amazing grandmother who always had a smile and time for each of her grandchildren. Her great-grandchildren loved playing with her.
Elmyra loved crafting and made thousands of ornaments during her life. She enjoyed playing cards and was ruthless.
Elmyra is survived by her son, Ronald Dorn (wife Loretta), and will lovingly be remembered by her five grandchildren: Lonnie, Stacy, Kellie, Cheryl and Shawn. She will be fondly remembered by her eleven great-grandchildren.
Elmyra is also survived by her brother Albert Thompson (wife Roseanne).
Elmyra was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, and her son, Roger, as well as her parents, Helen and Albert, her brother, John, and sister, Matilda. She was also preceded in death by her dear friend, Herb, and her life-long friend, Millie.
A family memorial was held on June 9, 2025, in Great Falls, MT. She will be interred with her husband, Howard, in Bedford, NY.
