Eugene Keith Filer

Eugene Keith Filer, 65, of Great Falls, pasted away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 of natural causes. Per his final wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Croxford Funeral Home and no services will be held.

Gene was born on December 10, 1952 in Longview, WA to parents Gilbert Edwin Filer and Annabelle Culver. After having moved around Washington, the proud NFL Redskins family finally landed in Montana and settled in Butte. Gene later graduated from Butte High School in 1972. He later moved to Great Falls, MT where he met who would be the love of his life, Denise Nee Mason, who he married in Great Falls in 1977. Together, their lives were blessed with three sons; David, Joshua, and Matthew.

Gene was a hard-working laborer that worked in various job fields such as the Berkley Pit in Butte, the feed lot in Conrad, the Oilfields of Wyoming, general maintenance in Great Falls, and in his later years going into retirement, as a stockman for Sam’s Club.

Since childhood, Gene was a diehard NFL Redskins fan but also rooted for the Atlanta Braves Baseball team. He also enjoyed watching and playing golf. Family was always first though. He enjoyed supporting his sons throughout their baseballs league games and the lifetime of memories they shared as a family. Gene also had a special place in his heart for the four-legged type of company, his cats.

He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and good friend to all who knew him.

Gene was preceded in passing by his parents, Gilbert and Annabelle Filer and by his sister, Nancy Filer.

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Denise Filer; sons, David Wayne Filer and Joshua Mason Filer, both of Great Falls, and Matthew Paul Filer of Missoula; sister, Magdalena Jarvis of Forsyth; brothers, Gilbert Filer Jr of Forsyth, Terry Filer of Great Falls; and sister-in-law, Machelle Jarvis of Gainesville, FL.
