Gail Annette Duerre, 62, of Great Falls, MT peacefully passed away at home with her husband and family by her side. A Memorial Service with Military Honors is planned for Saturday November 20th, 2021 in the Rose Room Chapel of Croxford Funeral Home at 1 PM; a reception is to follow.
Gail was born on March 30th, 1959 in Minneapolis, MN. She was the oldest of Benna Bee (Harris) and John Duerre’s three children. Though born in Minneapolis, Gail was raised in Grand Forks, ND. She graduated from Grand Forks Central High School in 1977. After high school, Gail attended the University of North Dakota, where she joined Kappa Alpha Theta women’s fraternity. In 1982 she joined the United States Air Force. After her basic training at Lackland, AFB in San Antonio, TX, her first assignment was Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, AK. In 1985 she transferred to Hill AFB in Ogden, UT. It was during her time in Ogden, UT that Gail met the love of her life, Larry Clifford Dunbar Jr. The couple were married on April 22nd, 1995 in Grand Forks, ND; sharing 26 years of marriage.
Gail was Active Air Force working in the Personnel Department from 1982-1986; she was released Honorably from the USAF in 1986. She continued in the USAF Reserves from 1986-1995. During her time in the Air Force, Gail also attended Chapman University, Orange, CA where she completed her bachelor’s degree in Psychology. She went on to complete some graduate work through the University of Utah, Ogden. During her time in the reserves and after separation from the reserves, she continued to work for the Air Force Civil Service, and she continued to travel with her job. She went on to F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, WY working in Education, then to Peterson AFB in Colorado Springs, CO working in Finance, and eventually making her way to Great Falls, MT and Malmstrom AFB. She continued to work for the Air Force Civil Service at Malmstrom in Education and later for the Civil Engineering Squadron in Personnel. She retired in 2011.
Always one to keep busy, Gail had many hobbies she enjoyed and in which she took much pride. She was a 20-year volunteer for Ducks Unlimited and Treasurer of the year twice for the State of Montana. She enjoyed her pets, knitting, needlework, photography, hiking, traveling, bowling, and walking her dogs. She was a hardworking, passionate person, loving, caring and always willing to help others. She especially loved spoiling her nieces and nephews, and enjoyed having them come to visit her, as well as she enjoyed going to see them.

She is survived by her loving husband Larry C. Dunbar Jr. of Great Falls; sister Dawn Duerre (Todd Ekstrom) of Maplewood, MN; brother Arden (Tina) Duerre of Vienna, VA; mother-in-law Alleene Dunbar of Collierville, TN; father-in-law Larry Dunbar of Lampasas, TX; sister-in-law Susan (Tommy) Causey of Bossier City, LA; brother-in-law James (Susan) Dunbar of Bryant, AR; and nieces and nephews, Tara Duerre-Ekstrom, Connor Duerre-Ekstrom, Alex Duerre, Ethan Duerre, Chris Dunbar, Scott Dunbar, Aaron Dunbar, Abigail Dunbar, Rachel Causey, Rebecca Causey, and Thomas Causey.
