Gary Standley

Gary D. Standley 75, of Cascade, passed peacefully on January 14, 2015 of cancer, with his loving family at his side. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 19, 2015 at the Cascade Methodist Church at 10:00am. Graveside service will be held at Chestnut Valley Cemetery in Cascade, Montana. Gary was born in Great Falls on September 13, 1939; raised in Castner Falls where he attended the Travis school, a one room school house, where he graduated from 8th grade. After graduation Gary went to work for Cliff Obrecht until joining the army in 1957 to 1959. During his time in the army he spent two years in Germany driving a reo support truck carrying fuel and ammunition. Upon returning home from Germany he went to work for Dick Jones, driving a school bus for the Cascade school system. Later he went on to work for Orin Olsen for about two years before leasing Dave Armstrongs place for the next twelve years, at which time he went to work for the state of Montana for 13 years until his retirement. Gary was a member of the Jaycees and two Castner Falls shooting clubs. He had an undying love of the mountains and his community. He like reading Louis L'Amaur novel, watching the turkeys, long country drives and visiting with his many friends. Gary was known for being a very social butterfly. Through his whole life Gary was a cowboy, and a rancher and he truly enjoyed every bit of it. "We will always love you and miss you dad", Steve Standley; "Thank you dad for the last five or six years of getting to know you, I love you", Craig Standley. Gary is survived by sons, Steven D. Standley, Craig D. Standley, and Randy D. Standley; sisters, Debbie L. Todd and Melody D. Diehl, and seven grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Bill Standley and Juanita Bell Curran Standley; two brothers, Rod and Doug; and a sister Joy. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate to Croxford Funeral Home for services in Gary's name or bring your favorite dish to share at the reception location in Cascade.
