Herbert P. Jones, 86, of Billings passed away on December 22, 2020. There are no services planned at this time. Cremation has been entrusted to Croxford Funeral Home.
Herb was born on July 16, 1934 in Jackson, MI to Paul Walter and Margarite Mary (Clemons) Jones. He was raised in Michigan until joining the United States Navy in 1951, at just 17, to proudly serve his country. He also received his GED while in the enlisted. This was during the Korean War and he was shipped from the Great Lakes Academy in Michigan to San Diego, CA to Bremerton, WA. In Washington destiny stepped in and he would meet Veona L. Grace at the USO Club in Seattle. The two were wed in King County Washington on February 27, 1953. They moved around a little but did live in Nashville, MI from 1968 to around 1977, when they moved to Montana.
After leaving the Navy, Herb worked for Michigan Bell and then Mountain Bell. He also found time to volunteer at Vaughn Elementary, Vaughn, MT. He loved the outdoors and nature. Last but not least he was a proud member of the Old Farts Pool.
H leaves behind many that will mourn him but especially his sons, Terry P. Jones of MT and Alan K. Jones of MI; daughters, Sherry S. Jones of MI and Lynn M. Jones of MI; sisters, Virginia C. Emery of NY, Lynda S. Warden of MI, Theresa A. Moore of MI, and Kathryn A. Moore of MI; brother James W. Jones of MI; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He goes on to join his wife of 37 years, who passed on July 15, 1987, Veona L. Jones.
