Born in Churubusco, Indiana August 12, 1935 to Luther and Opal Johnston, Jack attended local schools, graduating from Churubusco High School before joining the U.S. Air Force. While stationed in the Philippines, he met his beloved Melba. They were married in Reno, Nevada on October 12, 1966 and were together for 53 years until his passing.
Jack was a Radio Technician in the Air Force and was active duty for 21 years. He went on to work for another 20 years for Boeing. He loved hunting and was a hell of a good wing shot. An avid fisherman, his favorite fishing holes were at Canyon Ferry, Holter Lake and Tiber Dam. A sports enthusiast, he loved watching Jimmie Johnson racing NASCAR, and could be found cheering for his San Francisco 49ers on any football weekend. When not watching sports, he enjoyed reading, especially westerns.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Melba; sister, Karen Dennison of Indiana and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth and sister, JoAnn.
The family suggests donations be made to your local animal center.
