Jason Giard Obituary

Jason Joseph Giard was born October 4, 1925, in Mahnomen County, Minnesota (township of Gregory).  He was one of 13 children and was orphaned due to the stock market crash of 1929.  After many escape attempts from the Catholic orphanage, he was taken in by Tom and Mary Barton of Carlos Minnesota, where they owned a dairy farm.  There they raised and loved him as one of their own.  Dad loved his life on the farm and taught us many lessons on having good work ethics, reaping what you sow, and completing a job well done.

Jason proudly entered the military at the age of 18.  He was sent to Camp Maxey, Texas for boot camp in Company B, 84th Infantry Training Battalion.  He served in World War II in the US Army. He was stationed in Okinawa as a telephone operator after Japanese surrendered.

After the military he traveled to Montana for job opportunities where he worked for various farmers as a farm hand.  During that time he met the love of his life, Patricia Ann Armstrong.  They were married on June 4, 1955 in Conrad, MT.  They recently celebrated 66 years of marriage.  From this union, they were blessed with 10 children, 26 grandchildren, and 28 great grandchildren.

Jason worked for Pondera County for 28 years on the road crew where he built, graded, and plowed many snow drifted roads.  He loved hiking, fishing, camping, and hunting in the great outdoors.  He instilled his love for nature in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  At 86 years of age, Jason drew his last moose permit and with the help of his sons, he successfully filled his tag.  Of course, mom was by his side through all of their many adventures.  He enjoyed the lake and camping until his 94th year.

Jason is survived by his wife Patricia Ann, 10 children - Jason (Alice) Giard, Homer (Mary) Giard, Eva (Wayne) Smith, Amy Storle, Earl (Julie) Giard, Sarah Giard, Julie (Scott) Palmer, Steve, (Kimette) Giard, Joe (Deanna) Giard, and Alice Schultz (Larry); 26 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

Jason was preceded in death by his foster parents, Tom and Mary Barton, and his son-in-law Craig Storle.

Jason gained his angel wings on June 13, 2021.  His funeral will be held on June 26, 2021 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Conrad, Montana at 1:30 p.m.  There will be a procession to the Hillside Cemetery in Conrad. A reception will follow at the Conrad Moose Lodge.  Please join us to celebrate the life of our beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather.  You will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
