Jean Duffy Obituary

Jean Duffy, 86, of Great Falls passed away on July 30, 2020. Due to COVID-19 a memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation has been entrusted to Croxford Funeral Home.

Mom was involved in everything family. She was completely devoted to her husband, the love of her life, for 57 years. She was deeply interested in each child’s interests and supported each in what they aspired to do. She balanced it well with her own interests and passions. She was so creative, and it showed in how she would set a table for a party, decorate the house for the holidays, design clothes and gifts for her children and grandchildren or make an award-winning quilt.

Jean was also involved in the Great Falls community by being Cub Scout Den Mother, judge at the State Fair, member of the PDQ Quilt Guild and Falls Quilt Guild, Love Day Ladies with Our Saviors Lutheran Church which made world relief quilts and participated in the summer lunch program, and anonymous contributor to a history book on quilts in Montana. She never sought the limelight as she was content in serving and loving people and promoting them over herself. However, people recognized her quiet strength and noble character. She was honored by being one of the first initiated into the Falls Quilt Guild Hall of Fame.

Mom’s love of history was best seen in her antique collection, collecting items from her childhood memories on her grandparents’ farms and ranches. She collected for friends and family as well as for her business and many sought her out to give advice on various items.

She loved being outdoors whether it be walking in the park, watching birds, camping, fishing, or spending time at the cabin. She was at every game her children were playing and was actively supporting the organization behind the sport in so many ways – from running concession stands to repairing uniforms, she did it all.

She lived a full life filled with love and laughter and giving of her heart and soul to friends and family. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her but her legacy lives on in her children. As her daughter, I know that if I love as well as she did, I will have accomplished much in my life.

We love you, Mom, and look forward to another family dinner in heaven.

Mom,

Jean Duffy was a great Mom.  She was a great example for the family on how keep a positive attitude in the toughest times.  She always made the family priority one and was always our biggest fan in whatever sport or activity we pursued.  She was a patriot and always supported the Army soldier deployed in the combat zone or for training.  For example, she sent oatmeal cookies and letters to her son Tom while he was at Ranger school, and all the combat deployments.  Jean Duffy was great cook, who always served great family meals every night.  Her Christmas cookies, breads, and fudge were great.   Her Sunday and holiday meals were the best that ever ate anywhere.  Your son, Tom.

Jean loved her family, friends, and community. She will be missed by many, but especially her beloved husband, Kenneth Duffy of Great Falls, MT; sons, Russ (Theresa) Duffy of Dillon, MT, Kenny (Trisha Schertz) Duffy of Billing, MT, Tom (Janet) Duffy of Bellevue, ID, Jim (Sue King) Duffy of Sacramento, CA; daughters, Kathy (Don) Hubbartt of Boise, ID; sister, Winnie Lee Moore of Spokane, WA; brother, Gary (Celia) Ross of Phoenix, AZ; Nine Grandchildren and Ten great-grandchildren.
