Jerome "Jerry" Hitchcock Obituary

Fort Shaw resident Jerome “Jerry” Iral Hitchcock’s life paralleled his favorite song, “Give me land, lots of land under starry skies above, don’t fence me in.” Born April 29, 1947 in Great Falls Jerry spent his childhood in Choteau where he became an independent thinker with strong opinions. He joined the Navy serving as Bosun Mate during the Vietnam War from 1967 – 1970. May 27, 1969 in Choteau, he married his cherished life partner, Mildred “Millie” Camphouse. Together they raised five first rate sons. To support the family Jerry worked on ranches in Whitlash and Choteau area, drove truck, served as a clerk at Big R, and delivered newspapers to rural customers 365 days a year for over 30 years. Before his retirement he drove bus for the Simms school district where he was recognized as a favorite bus driver by his passengers in a newspaper article. To ensure that his love of hunting and respect for the great outdoors was a legacy he passed on to generations he was a Hunter Safety instructor for 30 years, receiving accolades for his service. Jerry broke through this earthly fence to ride with his heavenly father January 31, 2019.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mildred “Millie” Hitchcock; sons, Wally, Mike (Tanya), Leonard, Jeremy (Tavie), Gary (Sarah); grandchildren, Kaity (Tim) Stewart, Jamie, Samantha, Lane, Jessica, Ally, Chad, Grayce, Klayre, and Parker Hitchcock; great-grandchildren, Delaney, Mathew, and Emma Stewart; sisters, Billie Baker and Nita Hitchcock.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill & Alma Jean Hitchcock; daughter, Paula; brother, Wally Hitchcock; grandson, Yukon Hitchcock. The family invites friends and family to a Memorial Service at Fort Shaw Bible Church Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 11AM. If one wishes to send memorials, the family asks donations be made to the Ramsey Keller Memorial, Veterans Memorial, or donor’s choice.
