John Ray Niles, 80, passed away March 2nd, 2022, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
John grew up on a farm in Saco, Montana, and was kept busy with all the work a farm entails. He was a hard worker. John graduated from Saco High School.
As he grew older, one of his favorite past times was watching westerns on TV. Not just any westerns, he preferred to “good ole westerns”. He loved the outdoors and spent many of his younger years hunting and fishing in the nearby countryside.
In 1964, John married Delores Haugler. Their little baby daughter, Shawnee, was born in 1966, but only lived a few days. John and Delores divorced soon after that. Shawnee’s death left John with a broken heart for his sweet little girl.
John was a man of few words, a man of mystery in a lot of ways. This made his quick smile and flash of sparkling eyes even more endearing. Besides TV westerns, John loved ice cream and banana bread with chocolate chips.
He is survived by his brother Tom; and sisters Katie Corbell (Libby, MT) and Ann Hanson (Palmer, AK)
John was a simple man, content with simple things. He made an impression on his friends. He will be missed by many, but his memory and legacy will live on.
