Judith Weaver Obituary

It’s a little bit funny, this feeling inside.  How do you write an obituary for your mom who was supposed to live forever?  We weren’t ready for her soul and spirit to fly into the mystic.  But on June 12, the world lost Van Morrison’s biggest fan.  Come to think of it, Kevin Costner lost his too.

Born in Louisville KY, Diane grew up in Seattle.  Explains her personality to a T, she had the hospitality of a southern Belle, her fair share of rainy days, but like a sunny day in Seattle, nothing was more beautiful.  She and her baby sister Connie (Bob) Wooldridge were lucky enough to live 3 years in Japan before the Wooldridge’s settled in Magnolia.  Her gypsy soul, sprinkled with a little fate, brought her to Kodiak Alaska in 1967.  There, working as a cocktail waitress at Tony’s, she fell in love with the manager, Ray Weaver.  They were married 4 years later and celebrated their 52nd anniversary last October.  Their love took them from Kodiak to San Diego, Enumclaw to Seattle, and then Clearwater Florida to Durham North Carolina before finally ending their journey in Great Falls Montana.

Her greatest achievement in life was her 3 children, who are mourning her today, Derek (Lori) Weaver, Jennifer (Doug) Campbell and Crystal (Jeff) Nix.  Diane would tell you they were responsible for every white hair on her head, but she’d also happily say they caused every smile line on her face.   Even more special to her were her beloved grandchildren, Sierra Oakley, Anthony Weaver, Katelyn and Bryant Nix.    Also mourning her today are her nieces and nephews who lovingly called her Auntie Di.

She fought lung cancer in the 90s, blood cancer in 2000s, 3 major strokes in her last 8 years and we all said George and Vera, her parents who preceded her, deemed she just wasn’t ready to join them yet.  And today, along with all her countless cousins and friends, her husband and children are very sad to have to say goodbye. Lady Di, how wonderful life was with you in the world.
