Kathy J. “Kat” Phillips, 68, of Great Falls, loving sister, aunt and best friend, passed away on Friday, April 9, 2021. Cremation has been entrusted to Croxford Funeral Home. Her Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, April 28th at 2:00 PM at the Joplin Cemetery.
Kathy Jean Phillips arrived on March 5, 1953, daughter of Curtis LeRoy and Isobel May (Abrams) Phillips in Rudyard, MT. She attended local schools, graduating from Joplin High School in 1971. She went to work for Burlington Northern Railroad/BNSF, becoming one of the few female railroad engineers, retiring after 41 years.
An intelligent woman, Kathy was constantly learning and loved reading. She enjoyed crocheting and gardening, taking pride in her flowers, especially her beautiful roses. She was witty and had a great sense of humor. If you made her laugh you felt on top of the world. She put a lot of care and attention into her family and friends and her neighborhood. Ever thoughtful, she always carried a bubble solution in her purse, “just in case”.
Survivors include her sister, Diane Phillips (Jim Peterson) of Wittman, AZ; brother, Scott Phillips of Great Falls, MT; nieces, Katherine Peterson (Spencer Brown) and Aimee Peterson (Jackie Braun); nephew, Axel Peterson; Minnie Allen and Ashley Lamb.
Those who preceded her in death include her parents and brothers, Cutis Leroy and Glen.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Doctors Without Borders or the Cancer Foundation.
