Kermit Francom Obituary

Shirl LaMon Francom, better known as Kermit, age 79, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at the BeeHive Assisted Living Home after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.  A Memorial Service will be held at the Belt Community Church on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. followed by a luncheon.  The family will have a private burial service at the Pleasant View Cemetery.

Kermit was born on January 13, 1940 to Wilbur and Nola Francom in Tremonton, UT.  He married his wife, Phyllis on November 25, 1961 in Great Falls.  He served in the U.S. Navy for two years.  Heworked at the Anaconda Company for 17 years and the Belt School for 17 years as the head maintenance engineer, as well as working as a brick layer.  Several of his masonry projects can still be seen in the Belt area.  He had a soft spot for any dog but especially toy poodles.  He was an avid Belt Husky fan, never missing a game, and the players knew he was there rooting for them.  He drove school bus for years, taking the kids to where they needed to be.  As an avid outdoorsman, he taught his sons to hunt and fish and how to appreciate the great outdoors.

Kermit and Phyllis enjoyed many hobbies including bowling, camping, fishing, all kinds of card games and dancing.  They spent much of their time with family and friends enjoying these activities.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; sons, Wayne (Sandy), Dave (Debbie) and Neil (Lauren) along with nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Elaine Peterson and brother, Ron Francom.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry; sister, Glenna and son, Bob.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Belt Community Church, Box 246, Belt, MT 29412; Belt Volunteer Ambulance, Box 74, Belt, MT 49412; or Peace Hospice, 1101 26th St. So, Great Falls, MT 59405.  The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Linden Home and Hospice for the care and compassion they provided during Kermit’s illness.
