Marilyn Morken Obituary

Marilyn Yvonne Morken died peacefully in the care of her Heavenly Father on Monday, April 30, 2018.  A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, May 17th at 11:00 AM at Glacier Memorial Gardens in Kalispell, MT, where she will be buried next to Kevin.  Croxford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Marilyn was born November 26, 1937 in Conrad, MT, the only daughter of Archie and Mollie (Island) Morken.  The Great Depression still had a grip on the economy, but Archie was a very determined young man who had a plan for his future and his family.  At the time of Marilyn’s birth, Archie worked at a gas refinery east of Cut Bank.  Within a few years, he began farming west of town.  He was very successful until he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis a few years later.  The farm was sold.  The family moved to Polson and purchased a home that included a one room grocery store at the front of the house.  As Archie’s health continued to decline, a decision was made to move back to Cut Bank.

Marilyn graduated from Cut Bank High in 1956 and shortly after married her high school sweetheart.  Three children were born in the years to come, two boys and a girl.  Life, being as it is, took several twists and turns and many heartaches lay ahead.  She had so many hopes, plans and dreams for her children, but very few were realized, much to her lifelong regret.

Yet, one sorrow was greater than all the others.  On October 28, 2003, her beloved son, Kevin, died at a Missoula hospital.  She never recovered from that great loss.  Her greatest comfort was in studying the Word of God and in looking forward to being reunited with Keven.

Survivors include her daughter, Sharalee Baker and son, Brett Baker, both from Great Falls; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Gary (Karen) Morken from Miles City and Earvin (Beverly) Morken from Kalispell.
