Obituary

Neill Jon Windecker, 81, of Cascade, passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2022, of cancer.  No services are planned per his request.

Neill was born May 30, 1940, to Claude and Georgia Windecker in Great Falls, MT.  In 1958 he graduated high school in Havre, MT.  He attended one year of college in Havre then in 1959 volunteered for the Army.  He was stationed in Germany from 1960 to 1962.  He received an honorable discharge as a PFC in artillery survey.  In 1963 he attended college in Bozeman for three years and worked summers at the IX ranch in Big Sandy.

Neill married Karen Bright of Wilsall on May 15, 1965, in Bozeman, MT.  They had met in 1956 at the Great Falls fair.  After their marriage they moved to the IX ranch at Big Sandy where Neill was employed as the unit foreman.  Their children, Michael and Jodi, were born there.

In 1978 the family moved to Cascade as Neill became foreman for Sieben Livestock.  After his retirement in 2004 the couple built their home out of Cascade.  Karen passed away December 14, 2010, from cancer.

In 2013 Neill became close friends with Beverly Caldwell. They traveled to their grandchildren’s sporting events and enjoyed some heated card games.  They attended local rodeos and traveled with friends to Vegas, Calgary and Pendelton, as rodeo fans. In 2019 they took a cruise to Alaska.

Neill kept busy helping neighbors and friends, especially with his skid steer.  He was a brand inspector for Montana Department of Livestock, which kept him in contact with livestock friends and acquaintances.  He enjoyed TV westerns and reruns of many rodeos before he passed.

Neill was preceded in death by his wife, Karen and his parents.  Survivors include his brother, Clyde (Sonja) Windecker of Absarokee; son, Michael (Lindie) Windecker of Vaughn; daughter, Jodi (Rob) Arthur of Frenchtown; grandchildren, Hailey and Tel Arthur of Frenchtown, Ellery Windecker of Helena, Kylie (Eric) Grotjohn of Clyde Park; great-grandchildren, Cynch and Ryden; special friend, Beverly Caldwell of Cascade.
