OPAL GOODMAN
Opal Grace Goodman (Murphy) was born on January 12, 1928 in Great Falls, MT to parents James W. Murphy and Emma Maki. She passed peacefully to the hands of the lord on July 2, 2018. The eldest child of seven, she attended school at Spion Kap through 8th grade. Opal was a graduate of Great Falls High and later obtained her degree in elementary teaching. Opal went on to teach for over 40 years in many schools and enjoyed working with children through the years.
Opal met the love of her life Tom Goodman. They were married on November 2, 1949 and started a family adopting Renee and Jerry. Tom Goodman died November 20, 1970 while the children were both still young, but she continued to live at the ranch. Opal loved playing bingo and was known to sing in choir. She enjoyed attending the VFW and visiting the Belt Museum.
Survivors include daughter; Renee Gruner (Carl), granddaughter; Jessica Goodman, grandsons; Michael Ferda, Tommy Gruner, and many nieces and nephews. All of whom she loved dearly, brothers Larry Murphy (Lynda), and Lee Murphy, Sister; Alice O’Connell (Dar), Daughter-in-Law; Shari Higgins.
Those who preceded Opal in death include her husband; Tom Goodman, son; Jerry Goodman, parents; brothers Gerald Murphy, Robert (Bob) Murphy, Ed Murphy, granddaughter-in-law Brittney Roberts.
A Memorial will take place at Montclair United Methodist Church 200 2nd Ave S, Belt on Monday July 23 at 11:00 AM. The burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Belt/Arlington with a Potluck after graveside at The Belt Park Pavilion. All are welcome.
