Richard C. “Dick” Shortridge, 93, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away in the early evening on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Peace Hospice. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 26th at 1:00 PM in the Rose Room Chapel at Croxford Funeral Home.
Born to Signa Faye and William C. Shortridge in Augusta, MT on September 7, 1924, Dick attended Montana State University in Bozeman. In 1946 he married the love of his life, Betty MacDonald. They were blessed with three wonderful children and had 73 amazing years together.
Dick joined the Army Air Corp, progressing to Major before his honorable discharge. His work history included cattle ranching, owner of Great Falls Flooring, and working for the Bureau of Reclamation. He was a Free Mason, a Shriner, an Elk and Moose. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and especially spending time with his family and friends at the cabin in Lincoln. He and Betty enjoyed lots of cruises together during their travels. For 27 years they were snowbirds, heading to Yuma to avoid the Montana winters. In his later years, his greatest joy came from time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his loving wife of 73 years, Betty of Great Falls; daughter, Leslie Faye Alexander; sons, Richard D. and Ron G. Shortridge; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Dick was the last survivor of his parents and six brothers and sisters.
