Robert John Mattingly Sr. known by most as Bob or Bobby, 80, of 62 Elk Drive, a retired concrete contractor, died of natural causes at home in the arms of his wife with his son, Shiloh and daughter, Autumn by his side. A Visitation will be held at 9:00 AM Saturday, December 12, 2015 in the Relief Society Room at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1401 9th St NW, Great Falls, with his Funeral Service beginning at 10 am. A reception will be held immediately after the service with burial to follow at the Manchester Cemetery.

Robert is survived by his wife, Vicki Mattingly; sons, JR, Phillip and Shiloh Mattingly; daughter, Autumn Crawford (Mike); sisters, Phyllis Manzer, Joann Sneed (Jim), and June Hamblin (Glen); grandchildren, Josh, Presley, Matt, Jacob, Cash, and Jayne Mattingly, Brandi Dolfemeyer (Mark), Megan Arthor (Ty), Shaylee Staker (Mitch), Aiyden, Destinee, and Valor Crawford; two great- grandchildren, Cheyenne and Derek Mattingly; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Bob was born Dec. 6, 1934 in Great Falls, MT to Susan and Phillip Mattingly; the first of five children and only boy. He graduated from Great Falls High in 1952, where he excelled in Track and Field. He worked with his father at Mattingly’s Texaco Station on 10th Ave. South, where he met and eventually wed Beulah Stinson in 1952. They had two sons; Robert John Jr. and Gene Phillip. She later passed away in 1962.

Baptized in 1956, Bob became an active and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved the many callings in the church he held; particularly as a home teacher and ward mission leader. Both of which allowed him to share his love of the gospel with others. His child-like faith and positive nature radiated when he spoke of the Church and his love of the Savior.

Bob later partnered up with Lee Nelson, who started his career in the Field of Foundations. He owned and operated Custom Foundation Company for over 50 years before he retired in 2006. Bob was known in the concrete world as a hard working contractor whose integrity put him in a class all his own. His honesty and work ethic made him loved by customers, employees, and friends alike. Caring for the well being of all, was natural to this genuine man.

Robert married Debra Covert in 1968. They had one son Derek. They divorced in 1975.

Following his divorce, Vicki Lynn Bowman came to work for Bob. They fell in love and married Aug. 8, 1975; later solemnizing their marriage in the Salt Lake Temple. They shared life and love for the next 40 years together, giving Bob his only daughter; Autumn, and youngest son; Shiloh. Bob designed and built a beautiful home on the Missouri, where he raised his family in God’s country. Years of memories were made on that river: skiing, boating, gatherings, as well as baptizing Vicki and three of his children there.

He was a gifted artist and sculptor. He loved sledding with his kids, dancing, hunting, and fishing; trips to Virginia City, Lincoln, and Placid Lake. When described by those who knew him best words like funny, positive, strong, dedicated, genuine, and kind were used over and over. His life was all about family. Everything he did centered around the idea of being with his family and providing for their spiritual and temporal well-being. Not only did he tell his family everyday that he loved them; he showed it. He was active in his kids lives; attending all events and activities that involved them. Bob beamed when he spoke of the accomplishments of his family. He had the most incredible soft hands, sparkling blue eyes, positive attitude, and kind-hearted nature imaginable, and will be missed by all those who knew him. The world has lost a great man. Families are forever- until we meet again.

Bob was proceeded in death by his parents; sister, Michelle Nugent; wife, Beulah; brother-in-law, John Stinson and son, Derek Mattingly.
