Viggo Odson Andersen, 87, of Great Falls, passed away on October 9, 2014 at Peace Hospice of natural causes. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 17, 11:00 AM at Christ United Methodist Church with Reverend Susan Otey officiating. Burial to follow at Highland Cemetery with military honors by the VFW Post 1087 and the MTARNG.

Viggo was born on November 9, 1926 in Great Falls, MT to parents AP and Gladys Andersen. Shortly after graduating from Great Falls high school in 1945, Viggo joined the Army Air Corp where he proudly served as a Radio Mechanic during the time of WWII. Upon his separation, Viggo went on to MT State College where he graduated Phi Kappa Phi and Tau Beta Pi with Honors earning a BSEE degree in 1951. He also attended Askov Folk School in Denmark in 1953 and 1956. In 1959 he married his first wife Julie Robinson from which they brought 1 child into the world. They later divorced in 1964. In 1967, Viggo married Joyce Armstrong who he was with until her passing in 2013.

He worked as an electrical engineer for Boeing, Tracer Lab, and NonLinear Systems. He ultimately returned to farming and formed Andersen-Hovland Ranch, Inc. with his brother-in-law Einar Hovland. Aside from work Viggo loved music. He played the cello for the Great Falls Symphony and for the Oakland, CA Symphony as well as in college. Additionally, he sang choir in the Christ United Methodist Church and was a member of the Skunk Wagon old car club, MT Grain Growers Assoc., MCFRA, Wheat Bldg. Board, and the GF Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Committee. He also enjoyed old car restoration, clock repair, travel and exploration.

Viggo is survived by his sister, Marie Hovland of Great Falls; son, Erik Andersen of Great Falls; brother-in-law, HT Murphy; step-daughter, Ronelle Armstrong of Everett, Washington; nephews, Karl Mullineaux, Sigurd Hovland; nieces, Marie Van Jares, Elena Stuker and multiple grandnieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce; sister, Karen Mullineaux; both parents and grandparents.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Great Falls Symphony, Peace Hospice or a charity of your choice.
