Virginia Raynes Obituary

Our sweet “Ginny”, Virginia Rose Greenwood Raynes, 94, of Great Falls, passed away on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Peace Hospice surrounded by family.

Born February 12, 1927, in Great Falls, MT to Godfrey and Rose Baker Greenwood, Ginny attended local schools, graduating from Great Falls High School in 1944.  She met William Max Raynes on the elevator of the Paris Department Store, marrying him on April 10, 1949, in the Brown Parlor of First United Methodist Church.  They spent their honeymoon on a Triumph motorcycle traveling from Great Falls to Nitro, West Virginia.

Ginny worked as an administrative secretary then as the inventory control clerk for Falls Supply Company for many years.  After retiring from Falls Supply Co., she worked at Montgomery Wards in the office.  Ginny was a Campfire leader and a 4-H leader, teaching baking and sewing.  Her baking earned her several blue ribbons and best in shows at the state fair.  As an accomplished seamstress she also earned several state fair awards.

Survivors include her son, Mark (Kathryn) Raynes of Lakewood, CO; daughters, Deb (Craig) Asmus of Bigfork, MT, Leslie Raynes of Great Falls and Sue (Dan) Della Rossa of Great Falls; brother, Oliver Greenwood of Great Falls; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Those who have preceded her in death include her beloved husband; parents; sister, Louise Armstrong; brothers, Donald, Walter and Kenneth Greenwood; granddaughter, Jacie Raynes.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to your favorite charity in honor of Ginny.  A memorial will be held at a later time.
