Uncle Leon,
I finally found you in Jun. 2014. I am so sorry we never got the chance to meet in person. I truly cherish every email. I always half expected them to come back corrected, but they never did. You made me laugh from the very 1st email and several times since. I hope you knew how grateful I am for the time we had. You helped me get to know my dad, grandmother, grandfather, you and even myself. Happy Birthday, CHEERS!! Love and miss you

I was saddened to hear of Leon's passing. I hadn't seen Leon since his retirement from the Tribune, but remember him well. He would occasionally point out to me his selection of a Basque separatist news brief he had selected for publication and each year we had some variation of a conversation centered around his dislike of writing his self appraisal. I would insist on it and he would insist he saw no reason to toot his own horn. Eventually he would submit a review of his job performance, a factual account of his work, with limited adjectives. His managers would write praising his strength in editing and proofreading, his commitment to his job and his eagle eye accuracy. I believe he had a rich inner life, as many introverts do. If I were to see him today, I expect he would tell me he considers this obit too similar to a self review. Always private and modest... Thank you Leon.
