Great Falls —Elmer Brent Bliss, of Great Falls, passed away August 28th, 2014 at the age of 84. Memorial service will be held 11:00 AM on Thursday September 4th at Bethany Lutheran Church in Dutton, MT.

Brent was born on March 12th 1930 to Elmer and Sadie Bliss in Great Falls. He attended the Largent School through 5th grade and then moved to Power where he graduated from high school in 1948 while working on the family farm. In that same year he joined the Air National Guard and went on active duty with the Air Force in 1950, during the Korean conflict. There, Brent served as Crew Chief and sheet metal frame mechanic, working on P-51 Mustangs. He was a member of the George AFB volleyball team, winning the National Championship in 1948.

After his tour in the ANG, Brent returned to farming and in the spring of 1955 married Patty Mathews. They raised two sons on the family farm east of Dutton. Amidst a busy farming schedule and raising a family, he studied and obtained his law degree from La Salle Extension University of Chicago in 1971. Brent was active in his community and was a member of the American Legion, Montana Farm Bureau, Bethany Lutheran Church and Promised Land School board. he served in the Montana Legislature in the 1983-84 session.

He enjoyed every sport that included a round ball. Brent loved telling how at age 10 he won the Great Falls marble championship.

His children and grandchildren shared his love of sports. He and Patty traveled all over the state to watch them play ball, never missing a game. At age 50 he began golfing, and made his first hole in one at age 60 and another at 80. He also enjoyed the arts and entertainment in Branson, Missouri, where he and Patty spent several winters.

Brent will be very missed. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patty Bliss; sons Stuart (Loretta) of Dutton and Gerald (Ebbie) of Gt. Falls; grandchildren Shari, Candice, Colby, Kevin and Blair; great-grandsons Matthew and Caysen; brothers; Gerald CA and Dave (Virginia) of Conrad. Memorials may me made to the charity of your choice.
